Pre-requisites: Admission into a doctoral program or permission of instructor; successful completion of a graduate level research methods course.

Course Description: This course presents descriptive and inferential techniques which are most commonly used in nursing research. The emphasis is on the conceptualization of the technique and the ability to select appropriate statistical methods to answer a research question or test a hypothesis. The course also offers an introduction to data management with Microsoft (MS) Excel, data analysis using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS), and data collection via Internet survey techniques using ‘Survey Monkey’. COURSE OBJECTIVES: 1. To understand conceptual principles of statistical testing 2. To be able to perform common statistical testing and interpret the results of commonly encountered statistical procedures including parametric, non-parametric, and psychometric statistical tests. 3. To become familiar with use of MS Excel and SPSS computer software. 4. To become familiar with Internet based survey applications such as Survey Monkey. 5. To examine and evaluate the appropriateness of the statistical procedures commonly found in the peer-reviewed literature CENTRAL FOCUS OF COURSE: rESEARCH
