NURS 6223 Applied Statistics II
Credit hours: 3 per Semester
Cluster: Research Methodology, Quantitative Research Methods and Statistical Analysis,Quantitative Research Methods,Statistical Analysis
http://apps.ouhsc.edu/studentinfo/Courses.aspx?College=NURS

Course Level: Doctoral Advanced

Course Type: PhD

IPE: No

Course Open to: Both Phd and DNP students

Institution:The University of Oklahoma

Pre-requisites: Basic applied statistics course with descriptive and inferential statistical analyses (through one-way ANOVA), selection of appropriate statistical approaches to answer research questions. Must be well versed in fundamental concepts of hypothesis testing. Questions about prior statistics courses and sufficiency may contact the instructor at lise-deshea@ouhsc.edu.

Course Description: Advanced conceptual and applied use of statistical techniques. Students review assumptions underlying specific approaches, perform and interpret output from analyses completed using statistical software, determine appropriate statistical approach to answer defined research questions relevant to nursing, and apply ANOVA and multiple regression models. Course Objectives: 1) Identify kinds of research, variables and appropriate inferences in studies involving analysis of variance, multiple regression and other advanced statistical procedures. 2) Analyze data and interpret results from fixed-effects and mixed-effects analysis of variance, multiple regression and other advanced statistics. 3) Assess measurement issues (reliability, construct validity, etc.) as they apply to nursing research reported in journal articles. 4) Choose alternative analysis after identifying violations of assumptions for various statistical procedures (e.g., repeated measures ANOVA, analysis of covariance). 5) Estimate effect size and calculate sample size to obtain sufficient power for certain statistical procedures. 6) Critique the design and analysis reported in published research studies.

Method of Instruction: blended

Delivery Platform: Desire 2 Learn (D2L)
