Course Description: Knowledge Management techniques (probabilistic/statistical models, machine learning, data mining, queuing theory, computer simulation) are examined along with the need for knowledge discovery, distribution, and management in clinical settings. The specification of a knowledge management comprehensive system for healthcare is developed.

 

Method of Instruction: Online. UCD uses Blackboard as its e-platform.

Other considerations: By the end of this course, the learner will be able to: Participate as the informatics nurse expert in an interdisciplinary team established to identify a knowledge management need and its impact on clinical care. Evaluate alternative knowledge systems models for their applicability to classes of knowledge management problems. Evaluate knowledge discovery models for decision support and outcomes prediction in terms of their strengths, weaknesses, assumptions, and their applicability to knowledge problems. Determine the appropriate knowledge systems model for an identified knowledge management need and use that model to write an initial functional specification for the knowledge management system. Address potential organizational barriers, proposed knowledge management critical success factors, and proposed organizational leadership roles/responsibilities to ensure system success/acceptance. Open to PhD and DNP students.
