Course Description: This course introduces the use of epidemiologic methods and modern geographic information systems to analyze the relationships between socioeconomic, physical, geopolitical, and demographic factors and urban health. These techniques form the basis of assessment of urban health problems to inform, plan, deliver, and evaluate appropriate interventions to ensure urban sustainability. COURSE OBJECTIVES 1.Apply descriptive and analytic epidemiologic techniques in urban population health assessment. 2.Demonstrate ability to use GIS to evaluate the health of an urban population. 3.Collaborate with team members to assess an urban area using epidemiologic and GIS data. CENTRAL FOCUS OF COURSE: theory and technological use of GIS systems to inform, plan, deliver, and evaluate appropriate interventions to ensure urban sustainability.
